Maybe there’s a senior citizens community in a Southern state that's in the market for an online hockey magazine.
Of course, that’s an allusion to the movie “Slap Shot,” which just marked its 35th anniversary and forever placed Johnstown and Pennsylvania on the hockey map. A move to Florida wasn’t in the offing for the fictional Charlestown Chiefs, and it certainly isn’t an option for Pennsylvania Puck.
But like the Chiefs – yet without the strip tease and the victory parade – Pennsylvania Puck is history. Today marks the end of our posting daily content.
I’m proud to say that we haven’t missed a day since our official launch on Oct. 1. We’ll be keeping www.papuck.com (and www.facebook.com/papuck) active at least through May, and we’ll switch up the “Original Six” features regularly to showcase archived stories. We might even add some new content, but it will only be on an occasional basis.
I’m grateful to each of you who made time in your busy lives for our take on hockey in the Keystone State. I am indebted to the advertisers who supported us, too.
But ultimately we just didn’t have enough site traffic and certainly not enough advertisers in order to continue.
Thank you to writer Dave Sottile, photographers Bill Duh and Brad Drey, photographer/blogger Tim Stough, and bloggers Alison Myers, Suzanne Lewis, Tara Seymour, Rich Christoph and Tammy Christoph for each of your contributions. Kudos to our web developers, Vius, partners in the truest sense.
Until then, we’re packing up the old iron lung for a trip to Minneapolis: Reg Dunlop is coaching the Minnesota Nighthawks, you know.
