Lebanon Valley College’s club ice hockey team has been honored for its commitment to community service with the school’s President’s Service Award.
The annual honor is presented to a student organization “whose members have demonstrated good moral character, leadership on campus and in the community, concern for cooperative living on campus, and community service.”
With two military appreciation nights in calendar 2011, the hockey team raised more than $35,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project. In December, the team’s annual Sunshine Game, held in collaboration with the LVC track and field team, raised scholarship money in memory of former track team member Nicole Gallo.
Members of the hockey team also have visited Lebanon VA Medical Center and worked with Habitat for Humanity.
LVC competes in the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association, the Flying Dutchmen making it to the league’s tournament final this season under first-year head coach Don Parsons.
